I set up a ceramic studio at the Fordsburg Artists’ Studios in the mid-1990s. I worked with clay, found objects and cattle horns. Sculptures were hand-built, using the traditional coiling technique. Wax, ochre, oxides and turmeric were rubbed into the kiln-fired figures. Many of the conceptual concerns that I use in my fibre-based work today stem from this earlier work. When we converted to only using sustainable energy in 2022, I sold my kiln and no longer work in clay.
